Chikamoto Kensuke is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Letters at Nagoya University. He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Osaka University in Japan. His research interests center on examining Buddhist rituals from the perspective of their cultural history. His investigation into Buddhist sermons as well as the preachers and sermonizers who performed them attempts to clarify the significant role of religious words, and reveal the performing aspect of religious acts, which may be defined as a narrative art.
