Cui Wendong is a research assistant professor in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was previously a lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Science, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He got his M.Phil. degree from the University of Hong Kong by completing a study of Chinese translations of Robinson Crusoe in the late Qing Dynasty. His Ph.D. dissertation recently submitted to the Chinese University of Hong Kong focuses on the translated biographies of Western heroes (Columbus, Garibaldi, Bismarck and Nelson) in the late Qing. While at HYI, he will continue his research on hero and hero worship and expand his dissertation into a cross-cultural study of Victorian English, Meiji Japanese and late Qing Chinese biographical writings.
