Song Ping received her PhD in Philosophy, Social and Behavioral science from the University of Amsterdam. Since 2006 she has been Professor of Anthropology at Xiamen University. Her teaching has been focused on globalization aspect of anthropology and transnational anthropology. Her research about Chinese transnational communities in Asia started from the Philippines then shifted to Malaysia, Hong Kong and South Fujian rural area of China. In recent years it has been on Fuzhou transnational migration group to US. She is one of six working committee of East Asia Anthropology Association (China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong) which hold annual meeting. She is also a member of council of Chinese Anthropology Society. She has been a visiting professor at Yenching Institute, Harvard University (2012-2013), the National University of Singapore (2010) and the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands (2004-05). Her most recent research projects are “’The cultural Southeast” and transnational Chinese social practices’, and ‘Cultural subjectivity in globalization: Fuzhou transnational migrant communities’.
