Yoon Il Hwan (Ph.D., Department of English, SUNY-Buffalo) is Associate Professor in Department of English Language and Literature at Pusan National University. His expertise is in British and American romantic and modern poetry. His recent research interests include a complex intellectual and cultural history of 19th and 20th century British and American poetry, and historical materialism of social structure and cultural change reflected in Romantic and Modern writers. In the past several years he has explored how the new nation identity in England and America is built and transmitted through public and private institutions and how the invention of nation identity permeated and is reflected in Romantic and Modern writers. He has also examined the way the invention of the individual body, the emergence of colonialism, and capitalist market had made a deep impact on the psychology and poetics of the writers in the period. At HYI, he will focus on the ambivalent relationship and two distinct interplays between folklore and national consciousness in the works of William Butler Yeats(1865-1939) and Sowol Kim(1902-1934), one of Korea’s most beloved and well-known poets.
