Congratulations to our alumni on their recent honors, promotions, and publications!

Maumita Banerjee (Asia-Pacific Studies Training Program Visiting Fellow, 2019-20) is author of the article “Interweaving influences and adaptations: sartorial endeavors of Okakura Kakuzō and M. K. Gandhi” in International Journal of Asian Studies, 2023.

Former HYI Visiting Fellows Shanky Chandra, Duan Bin, Nishit Kumar and Tong Yutao organized a panel at the AAS-in-Asia conference (held June 2023 in Daegu, South Korea) on “Bridging Over Mutual Estrangement: China-India Cultural Exchange Practice.”

Seung-Mi Han (Visiting Scholar, 2004-05) is author of the article “Coethnic, Multicultural, or Cosmopolitan? Cultural Citizenship, Enfranchisement, and the Contested Category of Korean-Chinese in Globalizing South Korea” in Journal of Korean Studies (2023) 28 (1).

Wenkai He (Visiting Scholar, 2016-17) is author of Public Interest and State Legitimation: Early Modern England, Japan, and China (Cambridge University Pres, September 2023).

Asei Ito (Visiting Scholar, 2022-23) and Jaehwan Lim (Visiting Scholar, 2018-19) are co-authors (with Hongyong Zhang) of “Catching the political leader’s signal: Economic policy uncertainty and firm investment in China” in China Economic Review (2023).

Jung Byung-Sul (Visiting Scholar, 2014-15) is author of 권력과 인간-사도세자의 죽음과 조선왕실 (Power and Human Nature: The Death of Prince Sado and the Royal Family of Joseon Dynasty), originally published in 2012, with a revised edition published in 2023. A Chinese-language translation, 权力与人:思悼世子之死与朝鲜王室, was published by Shanghai Bookstore Publishing House (上海书店出版社) in 2023.

Maki Atsushi (Associate, 2014-15) is editor of Poverty, Inequality, and Growth in Developing Countries (Routledge, 2015). The volume has been selected to be made Open Access under the Knowledge Unlatched Program.

Masatoshi Koizumi (Visiting Scholar, 2017-18) is author of Constituent Order in Language and Thought: A Case Study in Field-Based Psycholinguistics (Cambridge University Press, 2023).

Trang Phan (Visiting Scholar, 2020-21) is author of The Syntax of Vietnamese Tense, Aspect, and Negation (Routledge, 2023).

Dadui Yao (Visiting Fellow, 2011-12) is author of the article “Cheng Yu’s Response to the Moral Crisis and the Modern Fate of Confucian China” in a special issue of Religions on “Religion and Crisis in Late Imperial and Modern China.”

Wenjie Zhang (Visiting Scholar, 2019-20) is author of 东周青铜乐钟制度研究 (A Study on the Music System of Chime-bells in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty), Xiamen University Press, 2023.

Zhang Yun (Visiting Fellow, 2012-13) is now Assistant Professor in the History of Medicine, Department of Chinese Culture, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
