About the book: The Memoirs of Lady Hyegyeong, written by the wife of Crown Prince Sado, said that Sado tried to attack his father, King Yeongjo, when he was mentally unsound, and it was accepted as a crime of treason by Yeongjo. Based on this, the book analyzes and examines the death of Sado from various aspects using some historical materials such as “The Records of Joseon Dynasty” and “Journals of King’s secretaries” and several personal collections of writings. Investigating the life of Sado, also through the distortion of historical materials in the age of Yeongjo and Jeongjo, approaches the truth of the death of Sado, the popularly-known tragedy of the Joseon Dynasty. At the same time, it also tells the reality, dreams, and desires of the people in the Palace. In addition, the book analyzes the social background of King Yeongjo and Jeongjo’s era and introduces the history of the palace in the 18th century Joseon Dynasty.
思悼世子嫔惠庆宫洪氏的《閑中录》介绍说，思悼世子在精神不健全的情况下，企图攻击英祖，结果犯了谋反罪。以此为基础，利用《朝鲜王朝实录》《承政院日记》等各种历史资料和个人文集等，从多方面分析和考察了思悼世子的死亡。特别是从思悼世子出生、成长、死亡，从英祖、正祖时代的史料歪曲等长达一个世纪的历史多角度进行观察，接近思悼世子死亡的本质。同时，还讲述了围绕英祖和思悼世子的宫中人们的现实、梦想、欲望，更加准确地描述了朝鲜王朝最高的悲剧思悼世子的死亡。除此之外，本书分析了正祖、英祖时代的社会背景等，立体地介绍了18世纪的宫中历史。通过这种方式，读者可以了解思悼世子死亡事件的真相，进一步了解权力和人类的本质.
1762년 7월 조선 21대 왕인 영조의 아들 사도세자가 아버지의 명령에 따라 쌀을 보관하는 데 쓰는 뒤주에 갇혀 만 8일만에 죽었다. 아버지가 아들을, 임금이 세자를 죽인 이 사건은 조선후기에 가장 논란이 많았던 정치적 사건이었다. 이 책은 종전 <한중록閑中錄 >이나 <현륭원지顯隆園誌> 등 두어 종의 제한된 자료를 중심으로 구성했던 진실을 넘어서서, 방대한 편년 사료인 <승정원일기承政院日記>를 포함하여 관련자들의 문집 등을 폭넓게 조사하여, 사도세자가 죽음에 이르게 된 경위를 세밀히 재구성했을 뿐만 아니라, 사도세자 사후에 죽음의 진실이 정치적 입장에 따라 어떻게 다르게 유포되었는지 살폈다. 새로운 의견을 제시한 전문연구서이면서, 높은 가독성을 지녀 대중서로도 손색이 없다는 평가를 받았다. 이 책을 바탕으로 하여 영화 <사도>(2015)가 만들어졌다.
