Hsinning Liu is an Associate Research fellow at the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica. She received her Ph.D. in History from Kyoto University. Her research focuses on utilizing excavated legal and administrative documents from the Qin and Han dynasties to examine the interplay between law and society. She has published a monograph titled Inheritance During the Early Han Based on the Legal Texts of the Year Two from the Bamboo Slips of Zhang Jia Shan (2007) and several articles, including “Written and Verbal Bureaucratic Communication in the Han Dynasty: A Case Study of the Juyen Jiaqu Patrol” (2018), “Marriage and Adultery under the Legal Codes of Qin and Han” (2019), and “Contracts during the Qin-Han Period” (2021).
