Author Introduction: André Lefevere was a Belgian-American scholar, a significant figure in the fields of Comparative Literature and Translation Studies. Lefevere graduated from the University of Essex in the UK and taught at the University of Hong Kong, the University of Antwerp, and the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focused on Dutch literature and culture studies, German studies, Comparative Literature and Translation Studies. He was prolific, publishing 11 monographs, 2 textbooks, co-authoring 6 works and journals, and over 100 scholarly articles. Lefevere passed away in 1996 from acute leukemia at the age of 51, a significant loss to the international fields of Comparative Literature and Translation Studies.

Translator Introduction: Jiang Tong, Ph.D. in Literature, Professor at Beijing International Studies University, specializes in Translation Theory and Comparative Literature. He has published the monograph “A Genealogy of Venuti’s Translation Theory” and translated and published Venuti’s renowned work in Translation Studies, “The Scandals of Translation: Towards an Ethics of Difference.”
