Chen Chunxiao, received her B.A. and M.A. from Nanjing University, Ph.D. in history from Peking University, and is currently an assistant professor at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Her research area is Mongol-Yuan history, with a special interest in the relationship between China and Iran. Her monograph Chinese Civilization in the Ilkhanate: Immigrants, envoys and material exchanges focuses on the Chinese influence on Iran during the Mongol-Yuan era. She also pays attention to Persian historical and geographical literature, Silk Road studies, and Sino-Western cultural exchanges. Currently, Chunxiao is studying the Chinese populations in the medieval Islamic world, and is conducting the project “Chinese Immigrants in West Asia during the Mongol-Yuan Period: Identity, Survival and Cultural Interaction” during her stay at HYI.
