Heejung Seo is an associate professor at the School of International Studies, and Director of the Global Center for Chinese Studies at Sun Yat-sen University. She received her Ph.D. from Peking University in 2014. Prior to joining the Sun Yat-sen University, she conducted several research projects at Fudan University in China (2015-18) and the International Christian University in Japan (2012-15), including “The Establishment and Development of Chinese Aesthetics as a Modern Study” supported by the Ministry of Education of China. Her fields of interest are Pre-Qin philosophy, Taoist philosophy in East Asia, and East-Asian aesthetics. She is the author of A Study on Chi Wu Lun—Focuses on the Relationship between “the Subject” and “Things” (Beijing: Commercial Press, 2021). Her current research interest is concerned with the question of how Confucian scholars in the Joseon Dynasty of Korea and the Edo period of Japan understood and interpreted Taoist literature. She is currently completing her book manuscript, Understanding Human Emotions in Pre-modern East Asia.
