The 2017 HYI roundtable on "Asian Studies in Asia" was held on March 22, 2017. Panelists were Hirano Kenichiro, Park Hyungji, Wang Hui, and Zhang Longxi, with Elizabeth Perry as moderator. 

The Harvard-Yenching Institute co-sponsored a political science training program ("From Empirical Research to Theorization: Contributions of the Study of China to Political Science and Political Theory") from June 12-21, 2016, held at Sun Yat-sen University in China. On April 1, 2016 the Harvard-Yenching Institute hosted a reception at the annual meeting of the Association for Asian Studies in Seattle.

The 2016 HYI roundtable on "Asian Archaeology: Recent Discoveries and Controversies" was held on March 28, 2016. Panelists were Parth R. Chauhan, Piphal Heng, Nayanjot Lahiri, Yangjin Pak, Ken’ichi Sasaki, and Xiaoying Zha, with Rowan Flad as moderator. 

Former HYI scholars and fellows met in Taipei on Wednesday, October 14. Four alumni (Lin Wei-ping, Lin Li-yueh, Lei Hsiang-lin, and Chang Wen-chin) briefly presented on their recent publications, follwed by dinner with over 40 Taiwan-based alumni.
