On February 20, 2015 the Harvard-Yenching Institute held a gathering for its Tokyo-based alumni at the Toyo Bunko Cafe, Tokyo, Japan.
On October 20, 2014, a "Sanlian-HYI Academic Publishing Forum" (三联•哈佛燕京学术出版论坛) was held in Beijing, co-sponsored by Sanlian Shudian (三联书店) and the Harvard-Yenching Institute. The forum celebrated the 20th anniversary of the HYI-Sanlian Book Series.
On September 18, 2014, the Harvard-Yenching Institute held its fall opening reception to welcome this year's new visiting scholars and fellows at the Harvard Faculty Club.
New visiting scholars and fellows met at Henrietta's Table on September 3 for lunch with Director Elizabeth Perry and the HYI staff.
The Harvard-Yenching Institute held an Urban Studies Training Program in June 2010, June 2013 and June 2014. The programs were co-sponsored with East China Normal University, the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, and New York University. The 2014 HYI roundtable, on "Civil Society in East Asia," was held on March 25, 2014. Panelists were Profs. Marshall Ganz, Gao Bingzhong, Jeong Jong-ho, Kage Rieko, with Prof. Elizabeth Perry as moderator. Video from the event is available here.
The Harvard-Yenching Institute organized gatherings for Bangkok-based alumni (Nov. 12) and Hong Kong-based alumni (Nov. 17). Thanks to all who could make it!
The workshop “什么是最好的历史学：中国近代历史研究的反思与展望” was held in Hangzhou China on September 22, 2013. With sponsorship by the Harvard-Yenching Institute and the Department of History at Zhejiang University, the workshop was organized by Prof. Chen Hongmin. Professor Elizabeth Perry and Li Ruohong joined the event, which also included several HYI alumni.
