Ying Du is a professor of Chinese literature at East China Normal University. Her research areas are literature, media, and the cultural Cold War in Asia. She holds two Ph.D. degrees: one in Chinese literature from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the second in History and Cultural Studies from the Free University of Berlin.
Ying Du is the recipient of several prestigious fellowships, including the Marie Curie Fellowship, the Dahlem Research Fellowship, and the Visiting Fellowship Program of the Institute of Chinese Studies of CUHK, among others.
Dr. Ying Du is a published author, and her Chinese-language book Reconstructing Literary Institutions and Literary Paradigms: Shanghai, 1949-1956 (2011) won the First Prize for Excellent Books on Philosophy and Social Science by the Shanghai Social Sciences Association in 2012. Her English-language articles have appeared in Screen, Journal of Chinese Cinemas, Modern Chinese Literature and Culture, and The China Review.
