About the book: The work focuses on the folk culture of the ethnic Chinese community in South Vietnam, especially the public rituals, to analyze their cultural status quo, showing that the community is dynamic and flexible in adapting to the rapid-changing society of Vietnam, and using dualism wisely to preserve traditional culture and ways to achieve social integration.

About the author: Nguyen Ngoc Tho was a HYI Visiting Fellow from 2007-08 and a HYI Visiting Scholar from 2017-18.
