Chen Pingyuan
陳平原

Chen Pingyuan, Doctor of Letters, was born in the city of Chaozhou in Guangdong Province in January 1954. He works at present as Boya Chair Professor at Peking University (Dean of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature from 2008 to 2012), and is also a Yangtze River Distinguished Professor, a fellow member of the Central Research Institute of Culture and History, and a member of the Academic Degree Appraisal Committee under the State Council. Professor Chen was granted a Ph.D. Recipient with Outstanding Achievements by The State Education Commission and the Academic Degree Appraisal Committee under the State Council in 1991, the Outstanding Award of Scientific Research in Colleges (Social Science) for the first, second, third, fifth and sixth terms (1995, 1998, 2003, 2009, 2013) by the Ministry of Education, the Outstanding Award of Social Science Achievements for the ninth, eleventh and twelfth terms (2006, 2010, 2012) in Beijing, first place in the fourth Wangyao Scholarship Competition (2016) and the fourth Simian Originality Award (2017).
