Chisako Teshima MASUO is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Social and Cultural Studies, Kyushu University. Her Chinese friends call her Su Qi (苏琪) as well. During her stay as a Coordinate Research Scholar, she will collaborate with Professor Ezra Vogel (Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences, Emeritus, Harvard University) on a research project entitled “China’s Generational Change: From Trailing Goose to Maritime Power.” Prof. Masuo received her Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2008. Her research topics include Chinese foreign policy, international relations in East Asia, and Sino-Japanese relations. She is the author of China Looks Back: Mao’s Legacy in the Open-Door Era (University of Tokyo Press, 2010 in Japanese). Her most recent work includes Diplomatic History of China (first author, University of Tokyo Press, forthcoming in Japanese). Currently, she is working on the maritime issues in the East and South China Seas with a special focus on China’s changing relationship with its neighbors.
