Li Shang-Jen is a historian of medicine at the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica.  He also teaches at the Department of Social Medicine, National Taiwan University.  He specializes in the history of Western science and medicine in the nineteenth century.  He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Imperial College, University of London, and was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at University College London.  His main research interests are the history of missionary medicine in China, and the history of British colonial medicine.
