Lin Jian is a Ph.D. candidate in Philosophy and Religious Studies at Peking University. She obtained her B.A. (double major: Archaeology and Philosophy) and M.A. (Religious Studies) from Peking University. Her research focuses on the exchange of ideas between India and China through Buddhism and other religions. Her Ph.D. dissertation is about the metaphors of the Lotus Sutra. It examines how those metaphors were constructed in India and how they were reinterpreted and popularized in medieval China, in which some transformation and entanglements could be observed among different regions and groups. She is also interested in material establishments of Buddhism and ideological history in medieval China.
