Nishit Kumar is a Doctoral Candidate at the Centre for Chinese and South East Asia Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. His proposed Ph.D. thesis is entitled “China and the Nobel Prize: Reception and Impact of the Literature Prize to Mo Yan.” His research interests include contemporary Chinese literature, Chinese huaju (话剧), and the politics of art and literature. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Chinese language, literature and culture from the Centre for Chinese and South East Asia Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. He completed his M.Phil. from the same department and the title of his M.Phil. dissertation is ‘Evolution of Huaju (话 剧) in Modern China: A Study of Select Works, 1907 -1949’.
