Victor Teo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Japanese Studies at the University of Hong Kong, and is concurrently Affiliated Faculty with the China Studies Program and Korean Studies Program at the university. He received his B.A. Soc.Sc (Hons) from the National University of Singapore. He subsequently trained as a lawyer, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Middle Temple, UK. He received his MSc and subsequently, Ph.D. in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His primary research interest is in the international relations of the Asia-Pacific, as well as the politics and society of China, Japan and the Koreas. Before joining HKU, Victor Teo started his full time career as an LSE Fellow in the MSc China in Comparative Perspective Program at LSE’s Anthropology Department. Victor also served as Editor-in-Chief of Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism (5 volumes) published by Wiley-Blackwell. As the recipient of a Japan Foundation Fellowship, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Kyoto’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies. He was also a visiting research fellow at the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford (2014-2015), and was recently Doris-Zimmern Visiting Research Fellow at Hughes Hall, and Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS), University of Cambridge (2015-2016). At Harvard, Victor will work on two projects – the first is a project on the Globalisation of Sino-Japanese strategic competition and the second, a project focused on Illicit Political Economies of China’s Borderland areas.
