Wang Yumeng is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Chinese History at Nankai University, China. She received her M.A. in History from Nankai University in 2013. Her main research interest lies in the history of medicine in China, specifically the history of waike (Chinese external medicine, 外科). In her Master’s thesis, she explored the enhancement of the scholarly tradition and the marginalization of the craft tradition of waike in the Qing Dynasty. In her doctoral dissertation, she plans to focus on the transition of waike in its meaning, knowledge, practices and status in modern China (1900-1949) under the influence of Western medicine.
