Dr. Yangmotso is currently an Associate Professor at the School for Tibetan Studies at Minzu University of China, Beijing. She received her Ph.D. in early Tibetan history and literature from Minzu University of China in 2011 and has been teaching and researching Tibetan history in the same university. She has taught undergraduate and graduate classes including Linguistics, Tibetan Grammar, Old Tibetan, Colloquial Tibetan and English for Students of Tibetan Studies to both Tibetan and non-Tibetan students. As a visiting scholar, she visited the University of Virginia, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, and the University of Naples. Her publications include Nyatri Tsanpo: Many Traditions around the First Tibetan King (in Tibetan); The History and Current Situation of Dzongkha Tibetan (in Chinese); Tibetan Studies Abroad: Lecture Series (in Tibetan), Tibetan Studies Abroad: Lecture Series (in Chinese). Her first book won the national Zhu Feng Award for Tibetan Studies in 2017. Dr. Yangmotso has published more than 20 articles in Tibetan Studies in Tibetan, Chinese and English, and has conducted simultaneous interpretation for more than forty international lectures. Her earlier work focused on the formation, evolution and institutionalization of early Tibetan kingship. During her stay at the Harvard-Yenching Institute, she will be working on two seminal Tibetan texts to explore early phases of complex interactions between statecraft and religion as well as Buddhist impact on kingship notions in the Tibetan context.
